Diskoteka Avariya

Ryzhov and Timofeev met in the Ivanovo Komsomol headquarters, played KVN comedy together and studied at the power engineering institute. As DJs they ran discos, most often at the Avariya club on Lenin Avenue, 21, an address the band later sang about.

At first they leaned towards rock, but had no money for equipment, so they played dance music instead. During one disco the lights went out and panic began; Timofeev calmed the crowd from the stage, saying everything was fine, they were Diskoteka Avariya after all. The name stuck.

English Wikipedia describes the band as pioneers of house music in Russia. Since the mid-2000s their repertoire has leaned towards pop.
