The eighties are a small section here, and deliberately so: a track qualifies only if the song itself first appeared between 1980 and 1989. That leaves 16 tracks - but every one of them is recognisable within four bars.
The sound of the decade ran on analogue synths, a drum machine and a chorus that took its time. A modern arrangement rebuilds all of that: the parts are replayed on current gear and the tempo drifts towards the dancefloor, while the melody and the lyrics stay untouched.

80s remixes: hits from abroad
The non-Russian part of the section comes from the European scene of the late decade: Modern Talking’s “Geronimo’s Cadillac” from 1986, Taylor Dayne’s “Tell It to My Heart” from 1987 and Ice MC’s “Easy”, released in 1989. The originals ran on a drum machine and synth bass; our rhythm section is recorded again and sits tighter, while the choruses are the ones people sang on the dance floor.

- How are the 80s songs selected?
- By the release year of the original, 1980 to 1989. The date of our own version is ignored: nearly everything in the catalogue was recorded recently, so the year of the original is the only honest marker of the era.
- How does a modern remix differ from the original recording?
- The melody and the lyrics are the same, the arrangement is new. Rhythm section, synths and mixing are done from scratch, usually at a dance tempo. We do not speed up the original recording or lay beats over it.
- Why are there so few tracks?
- Because the section is not padded out with neighbouring years or related genres. Only songs whose original really belongs to the eighties get in, and the list grows as the catalogue does.
